Introducing ‘McCallum Art House’, a gallery in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, sharing its space with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint™ stockist ‘the old gentleman’s wardrobe’.

‘it is our belief that inspiring art work coupled with creatively painted and lovingly restored furniture, in a domestic setting, will prove to be a complementary mix’

Three years ago, Nicola McCallum, local architect, and husband, artist James McCallum, took ownership of Parade House, moving their studio from a small unit in Fort William’s industrial area, and took on the challenge of transforming Parade House into their new business premises and home. Over looking The Parade in Fort William, at the East end of its High Street, Parade House sits within its own ground in a unique position. Constructed as a military building in the mid 18th century and predominantly used as a home until the late 1970’s, Parade House has had a variety of commercial uses over the last 40 years. ‘McCallum Art House’ now occupies part of the ground floor accommodation while the owners steadily progress with creating their home on the upper floors.

‘our ultimate aim is to maintain an inspiring gallery and working studio promoting the work of contemporary artists and designers with links to the Highlands, while making accessible in this remote part of Scotland a full range of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint™ and associated workshops, we are here to inspire and assist our customers with their own creations, or you could just buy one of our completed pieces’

Since becoming an Annie Sloan® stockist in 2015 Nicola has visited Oxford to receive training and guidance from Annie Sloan® and her team. Each month, as demand dictates, workshops are held in the studio to share with others the versatility of Chalk Paint™.

Last year Nicola & James finally felt in a position to hold their first Art Exhibition, as this show was to be an introduction to their gallery they contacted a number of artists who had had a personal impact on their creative lives, inviting each of them to create two small art works to exhibit. Titled ‘New Beginnings’, this exhibition featured the work of 22 artists and opened with a preview evening, launching the gallery, on the 22nd November 2018.

Their current Art Exhibition, ‘Another Dimension’, was curated in conjunction with The Lime Tree Gallery at the opposite end of the High Street. Featuring the work of selected Artists, each with a link to the Highlands, exhibiting a 1m/sq art work at The Lime Tree Gallery and a 1 ft/sq art work at McCallum Art House. This exhibition is to be re curated mid September 2019, with a selection of the small and large art works to be exhibited in McCallum Art House until the start of their mixed ‘Winter Exhibition’, which commences the beginning of November 2019.

During the summer months ‘McCallum Art House’ is open 11-4pm but closed on Sundays, their facebook page McCallum Art House incorporating ‘the old gentleman’s wardrobe’ is kept up to date throughout the year with their events and opening times. If you would like to visit the gallery or studio out with these times please text or call 07730 608801 to arrange an appointment.

‘the arts are something we are both passionate about and hope that over time our gallery and studio will evolve into an inspiring and successful addition to Fort William’s High Street’
